Busy with didi

Xuan has been busy the past 1 week plus since didi is born and back home. Daily visitation to Raffles Hospital to accompany mummy and didi to now resting at home. :)

Xuan has been a sensible girl. A good jie jie. Xuan asks mummy and papa to carry didi when didi cries. Xuan likes to help to hold milk bottle for didi. Xuan likes to stand by didi's baby cot to watch didi everyday. Mummy keeps telling Xuan that didi is still a small baby and we should be gentle when taking care of didi and should not touch didi's head. Xuan just can't resist and keep wanting to touch didi's head cos Xuan dotes on my didi Ning kai! I know that mummy is worried and has been keeping close watch.. :p

Our bedroom is specially cosy at night when Xuan and didi share the same bedroom with mummy and papa. Occasionally Xuan got awaken by didi's cries in the middle of the night. When Xuan is really tired, I will continue to sleep while mummy wakes up to feed didi. hahaha... otherwise, i will be UP to do my part! hahaha...

22 December 2008. My didi is born! We are very happy and welcome didi to this lovely family! Xuan will dote on didi and share toys with didi! :)

One and only sweet Xuan

Xuan, mummy and papa are getting excited about didi's arrival. Auntie Dr Thong told us during our last checkup on Wednesday that didi could arrive anytime, earlier than expected!

We started packing mummy hospital bag immediately! haha..

The night before, mummy was tired and went to bed slightly earlier. The night was a bit cold from the rain. Xuan covered mummy with my purple blanket, gave mummy a kiss on the cheek and lie close to mummy before falling asleep. Nitez...

Yesterday, Xuan only managed to catch a short 30 minutes nap on the car journey to ah ma's house and decided to turn in for the night earlier than usual. However, sweet Xuan has not forgotten to fetch papa his blanket. Xuan lie close to papa in his arm and soon fall asleep soundly. Nitez..


That is mummy and papa one and only sweet Xuan.

Naughty 2 years old?

Mummy has heard so much of the terrible 2 years old stories but hopes that she will not see much in little Xuan.

While Xuan is an obedient and sweet girl most of the times, there are times where Xuan do make mummy and papa angry.

Xuan’s self confession: Occasional screaming and crying when things were taken away, running around at shopping malls, refuse to sit on high chair to have meal, refuse to keep still to clothe after bath, climbing up and down the chair and sofa despite repeated warnings, getting really close to television and fan(!!), insistent (with struggles and cries) on only mummy to bath, clothe and carry Xuan even when mummy is heavily pregnant and tired (despite mummy’s explanation and pleas).

Are these signs of terrible 2?? Oh..Xuan knows that both Mummy and papa are getting very concerned and are trying hard to convince themselves and acknowledge that it is a passing phrase for all little ones. :p

Mummy and papa know that these are part of growing up and turning 2 years old where high attention seeking behaviour is getting so obvious and where high level of curiosity kicks in everyday and Xuan just loves mummy SO MUCH (!!) that she wants no one but ONLY mummy to clean her.


“Mummy and papa, Xuan will try to outgrow these occasional unacceptable behaviour really really soon. Just give me a little bit more time and patience, please.”

Today, we went back to ah ma's house and we pray to Ah Zuo. Going back to Ah ma's house always bring back memories of Ah Zuo. Somehow, mummy feels that Ah Zuo is just around us. Mummy has been working hard collating pictures of Ah Zuo.

Xuan is Barney’s new fan

Mummy and papa don’t understand why so many children like Barney, the purple dinosaur, until last week. Let Xuan tells you why!

Xuan got a new Barney DVD from Da jiujiu recently and Xuan is addicted to it since then. Thanks to Da jiujiu. Xuan truly enjoys the Barney’s show. Xuan will emulate the dance steps and actions as Barney and Baby Bob hop and dance around with the children. Xuan will follow Barney and try to draw the square and circle as Barney teaches. How fun!



Xuan remembers that the green character is called “Baby Bop” after mummy told me only once. Faster than mastering anything. How powerful cartoon character is huh! Mummy thought.

Ah gong (paternal grandfather)’s house also has Barney’s DVD and Xuan will watch it together with Guan Sheng gor gor who is also a fan of Barney.

Actually, mummy told papa that Barney’s show wasn’t as bad as they had thought so initially. It was children friendly and rather educational – counting number, differentiating colours and shapes, alphabets reading etc.

So for now, everyday is Barney and Baby Bob day. “I love you, you love me, we are happy family….” Mummy likes this song though.

Mummy hopes that Xuan will not ask to buy the Barney’s soft toys. Humm…just not adorable compared to Pooh Bear and Hello Kitty.

Building up immunity system

Xuan has always been a very healthy baby girl since birth. No cough, flu, fever until about 13 months. However, things start to change a bit after Xuan was about 16 months old. Xuan gets cough and running nose easily nowadays. There were a few times that Xuan threw up from persistant coughing in the middle of the night. Through close mummy’s observation and discussion with Auntie Dr Toh (Xuan’s Pediatrician), Xuan may most probably have sinus problem. A genetic inherited problem as both mummy and papa have sinus problem although it has improved a lot with age.

Mummy’s friends told her it is common for children to fall sick easily after they are 1 year old for various reasons. However, it is still painful to see our little ones getting unwell now and then. Mummy is determined to improve the situation. Lesser ice cream, minimal biscuits, occasional treat of french fries for the time being. In fact, Xuan recalls that I have not had my favourite Gerber’s biscuits for ages. And oh..my favourite ice cream.

To build up Xuan’s immune system, Xuan is currently taking honey propolis and fish oil every alternate days. Both help to improve overall immune system and honey propolis has been researched and proven to be able to help relieve sinus, flu and cough related problems and provides many other benefits to health and skin. Lately, through mummy’s friend’s recommendation, we bought the Sharp Plasmacluster to purify and humidify (when air con is on) the bedroom air, hoping to relieve Xuan’s sinus every morning. Hopefully, we can see the improvement very soon.

24 months old milestone

Xuan loves to read!
Xuan enjoys snuggling close to mummy and papa on the bed every night listening to their story telling. Mummy has made space on the bedside table for Xuan’s favourite collections for Xuan to pick and choose every night. Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Pooh Bear Adventure, Snow White and Seven Dwarfs… Xuan’s latest favourites include Mickey mouse adventure and Little Einstein’s collection!

Do you know that Xuan can even make sounds to complement as mummy reads such as when the wolf knocked on the door, when the wolf ate Little Red Riding Hood. Xuan alwalys mischievously tickles mummy and papa when she hears the word “tickle”(!!) and Xuan shouts “Yeay” and clap at the happy ending! Hehehe…

Alphabets, numbers, colours and shapes
A is for apple and B is for baby!

Xuan can now read from A-Z, number 1 to 14, different shades of colours and shapes, and lots of words! Xuan is speaking longer sentence now too. From a 2 words sentence to now a 5 words sentence recently! E.g. “Papa carrys Xuan Xuan cross the road!” hehehe…

Mummy and papa are elated with Xuan’s achievements! Thanks to mummy and papa’s coaching and the many interesting DVDs for Xuan to watch everyday. Currently, Xuan’s latest addiction is the “Baby Einstein collection.” Xuan learns the different modes of transportation and vehicles, musical instruments, neighbourhood animals, etc. Thanks to Da Jiu Jiu who took a lot of his time to record these DVDs for Xuan!

Xuan also knows all my body parts in English and Mandarin too! Head, shoulders, cheeks, eye…“眼睛”, “头发”, “鼻子”...


And oh ya, Xuan loves music and dance!

Xuan is able to carry out simple conversations with mummy and papa now. Xuan is happy cos finally mummy and papa know what Xuan wants now most of times without having to guess a few times to get it right. Hehehe…

Motor skills
Xuan can do tasks like taking off own shoe, putting on and taking off skirt and pant, bringing the cup to the kitchen (at times), bringing dirty diaper to dustbin, keeping papa’s socks in the right cabinet, improvement in self-feed (though I still need a bib… hehehe), can hold a pen well and draw lines and circles (though not exactly straight and round.. hehehe..).


Sweet Xuan!

Noting Xuan’s recent encouraging developments and unlimited energy level, mummy and papa is trying to catch up on it by introducing more games and educational toys. Lately, mummy chanced upon some really nice puzzle toys and they are all now sitting at Xuan’s play room now! 6 different colours of Humpty Dumpty’s puzzles, Shopping List Game (to boost memory skill) and more. Xuan likes the Shopping Game where mummy and papa will tell Xuan their shopping list and Xuan is supposed to remember the items and put it in the shopping cart correctly! These will come handy in the next few months when mummy will be on maternity leave. Xuan and mummy will have fun playing and learning together!



Mummy and papa hope to bring Xuan out for more healthy outdoor activities like farm visit, swimming, beach play, walk in the garden etc. However, we will have to wait after didi is born as mummy gets tired easily nowadays as it gets nearer to didi’s arrival date. 3 more weeks actually.

Mummy missing Ah Zuo a lot a lot..

Little 2

Xuan turned 2 years old last Saturday, 22 November 2008.

Mummy and papa specially bought a pooh bear cake, chosen by Xuan 3 weeks ago. It is a simple but heart-warming cake cutting session at home together with mummy and papa. No colourful balloons. No invitees. But Xuan is happy cos Xuan can feel mummy and papa's love and effort to make little Xuan happy.

Mummy and papa wish Xuan grow up healthy, happy and pretty! May Xuan be a sensible and sweet girl to all loved ones and learn to appreciate for what Xuan has.



P.S. Both maternal and paternal great grandmothers left us for heaven in recent 2 months. Mummy and papa said that no big celebration and party is allowed at home. Mummy hopes that Ah Zuo is happy now and can see us in heaven. We all miss Ah Zuo.

In memory of beloved Ah Zuo (Great grandmother)

9 November 2008.

The day where mummy received the saddest phone call.

Mummy has just finished surfing the net for a cake, looking forward for an early birthday celebration for Xuan next weekend at Ah ma’s house (we are all happy as Ah Zuo has just been discharged from hospital and is recovering). It was a Sunday peaceful afternoon - 3plus.

The phone ring, ”Ah Zuo is gone. Ah Zuo breath her last in her sleep after lunch.” Ah ma called mummy.

“Why? Why? How can that happen??!” Mummy carried Xuan who was sleeping, ran out of the house, took a cab and we rushed our way to Ah ma’s house. Mummy in a state of confusion along the way. Papa was on his way back from Vancouver then.

All reviving efforts were made. The doctors managed to revive Ah Zuo’s heartbeat in the hospital. There were lots of tears as mummy saw the tubes and needles all over Ah Zuo. Pain. Mummy keep talking to Ah Zuo. "Don’t be scare. We are all here. "

10 November 2008.

Xiao jiu-jiu made urgent return trip back to Singapore from Taiwan training. Mummy cried uncontrollably as she made the way up to the ward to see Ah Zuo with jiu jius. Ah Zuo looked in pain today. No response. But mummy strongly believe that Ah Zuo knew our presence and heard all our every single word. We saw Ah Zuo tears.

Mummy and jiu-jius surrounded Ah Zuo. More tears from everyone. More pain.

After consultation and discussion with the doctor, Ah gong, jiujius and mummy had to make a decision. To fulfil Ah ma’s wish – To bring Ah Zuo home.

More tears and pain followed as each one took turn to say good bye to Ah Zuo. Nobody bears to let go. Last moment to hold Ah Zuo’s hands, feel Ah Zuo’s wrinkled face. We all know Ah Zuo couldn’t bear to leave too. We all have no choice. Great great grandmother is here to bring Ah Zuo to heaven. Pain and more Pain. Cry and Cry.

Mummy told Xuan that Ah Zuo is a very good Ah ma to her and Ah Zuo to Xuan. Mummy is very proud of Ah Zuo, the strength and determination that Ah Zuo showed in hospital.

We all love Ah Zuo and keep Ah Zuo dearly in our heart forever ever.

We miss Ah Zuo terribly. Everyone in the family does.

Ah Zuo, find peace in heaven and may great great grandmother be with you now.

Xuan misses papa

The long awaited weekend is here. This week has been particularly slow as papa is not home with Xuan and mummy. Papa has went to Montreal and Vancouver for work since last week.

Xuan misses papa.

First night, Xuan cried for papa, waited for papa at the door at 10.30pm. Mummy carried and hugged Xuan, whispered into my ear that papa has went far away for work and will not be home tonight. *sad sad*

Second night. Xuan asked for papa to play my favourite Baby Enstein DVD. Mummy smiled and kissed Xuan and played the DVD for me.

Third, fourth... night. Xuan and mummy made a date with papa to meet at MSN! We saw papa over webcam! Papa show us happily the shoppings spree that he has done for Xuan and didi! hehehe.. ;)

Finally, papa will be home tomorrow. Hurray! Both Xuan and mummy are so happy!

Xuan and papa had an early simple birthday dinner celebration for mummy this evening. Papa brought us to United Square Swenson on Mummy's request as mummy craves for chicken wings and ice-cream from Swenson. hahaha.. papa sang a birthday song to mummy!

The waffle ice cream is really nice! Papa got to eat most of it cos mummy is not allowed to take too much sweet stuffs now during pregnancy and little Xuan has just recovered from cough.

May papa has a good satisfying career. May mummy herself be strong enough to take care of the family well, chase after Xuan and didi and be able to bring joys and comfort to all her loved ones.

First Studio shooting!

Xuan went for first studio photo shootings last Saturday! Something that mummy has been gaming and looking forward all the while! hahaha..

The shooting was smooth sailing except for occassional Xuan's distraction here and there. Well, mummy and papa have already expected that. Afterall, Xuan is only a 23 months old toddler! hahaha..

One of the props that Mummy brought along are bottles of soapy bubbles. Xuan enjoying myself blowing and catching the bubbles while auntie Maryann captures the moments! Bingo! And we love these natural happy moments!

Mummy said that we will be back next year together with didi to take our family photo again! Great!!

Xuan played the fire warden role play with mummy and papa in class today. We had fun!

Today, we learned the letter "Y" in class and teacher is impressed with Xuan when Xuan could recognise and say the letter "Y" when prompted. 3 cheers for Xuan!

Instead of doing arts and craft in class today, Xuan learned how to make lemon juice with the help of papa. It is very simple. Here comes the recipe! We just need a slice of lemon and small bit of sugar (remember not too sweet okie) and we just got to really mix well with the help of a straw.

We went to the hospital to visit great grandma this evening. The whole family is glad to see Ah Zuo progressing well and is on the path to recovery now. Mummy is happy and can finally better put her mind at ease. Ah Zuo, you got to be patient, rest and recover well very soon okie!

Excited about didi's arrival!

Xuan's didi will be arriving in about 2 months time. Mummy and papa are now trying to ensure that we have bought all the neccessities. Beside preparing for didi's arrival, Mummy has to start hunting for pretty dresses for Xuan for Lunar Chinese New Year too! Afterall, it will be the Lunar Chinese New Year right after mummy complete her confinement care. So we can imagine that mummy is real busy now.

Xuan has been saying "hello to didi" every night before sleep. Hope didi can hear Xuan! hehehe....very soon, we will know whether didi looks like Xuan in about 2 months time!

Wish great grandma well and healthy soon

Great grandma (mummy's grandma) is sick and is hospital now. Xuan together with mummy and papa hope that ah zuo will recover and be healthy again very very soon. According to mummy, ah zuo (great grandma) is a very good grandma who dotes on mummy and jiujiu very much and helped to take care of them when they were young.

Xuan and Qiqi meimei are not allowed to visit Ah Zuo cos we are too young to go hospital. Even ah zuo and gonggong forbid mummy to go as often cos mummy is due for delivery very soon. Mummy managed to sneak in for a quick visit yesterday noon and is relying on jiujiu for updates everyday.

We pray and wish ah zuo get well very very soon! Ah zuo, you got to be strong!

Another friday outing

Xuan has been telling mummy and papa for the past few days, "xuan gai gai, see toys"! hehehe.. finally today is friday and long awaited weekend is here. :D

We decided to go nearby Vivo City for dinner. As mummy and papa are on leave, we manage to reach Vivo city early and have a good relaxing dinner before all the uncles and aunties knock off from office.


Where is the waitress jiejie? Xuan is hungry and wants to take order already.

No more pain pain

Xuan went for the last 5-in-1 booster jab last Tuesday. Xuan is relieved as auntie Dr Toh has given a good clearance and the next jab to be taken would be when Xuan is 7 years old. Hoorray! No more pain pain for the next 5 years! :)

Auntie Dr Toh praised Xuan for being a really brave girl as Xuan did not cry or struggle when given the jab. Xuan has a good weight of 14kg (80th percentile)and height of 92cm (above 100th percentile) at 22 months old. ;)

Since it was friday, mummy and papa decided to bring Xuan out for dinner for a mini celebration. Xuan can now self-feed very much better and drink from a cup without assistance. 3 cheers for little Xuan!

Happy weekend

Xuan loves weekend cos I have two full days with mummy and papa!

We will have our family breakfast together every weekend morning and watch the cartoon, "xiao ding dang" on sunday morning! Mummy says no violent cartoon for little Xuan and xiao ding dang is just cute enough for me.. hahaha..

Beside visiting both gonggong and mama and meeting Xuan's little cousins, Xuan attends class and goes shopping with mummy and papa. Sometimes, we stay at home and enjoy family bonding time. And oh ya, Xuan helps out in weekend spring cleaning too like bringing the dirty bedsheet to the laundry basket and keeping the folded clothes into the cupboard. :D

Weekend is always so short. Tomorrow is Monday again. Another working day for mummy and papa. Xuan is going to miss them again. Mummy has promised to be back home early to be with Xuan while dear papa has to attend lesson tomorrow night.

Xuan has graduated!

Xuan attended the last session of the 3rd term classes at JG last weekend. Mummy helped Xuan to prepare tibits to bring to class to share with my friends. There were a lot of song singing and dance (Xuan's favourite!) as we celebrate our graduation in joy!

Happy birthday!

Xuan is excited. I am going to Qiqi meimei's house this Sunday to celebrate her 1 year old birthday! Mummy said there will be cake and balloons! I remember that QiQi meimei was only a 3 months old baby when she came to my 1 year old birthday party last year.
