My 1st concert!

Xuan made her first debut dance on stage last Friday, 11 December 2009!

To mummy and papa, It was a fantastic performance put up by Xuan. Mummy didn’t expect Xuan to remember all the dance steps and sequence. In fact, mummy and papa were afraid that Xuan may run down the stage when she sees them. On the contrary, Xuan reminded mummy when we were on the way to school that mummy can’t go to work today cos mummy must sit at the red chair to watch ME dance! Oh…. Wah!

So excitedly, mummy and Xuan arrived at the school at 9am sharp for the dressing up by teachers. Papa, didi and ah ma (paternal) arrived shortly at 9.40am for the concert at 10am. Needless to say, the busiest people at the hall were mummy and papa who were busy snapping photos of me whenever i appear on the stage.

When Xuan made her entrance to the stage for her dance, Xuan waved excitedly to mummy when I spotted mummy among all the excited mummies. heheh..When the music started, Xuan immediately swayed gracefully to the music, with lots of hand movements and smile on her face! Mummy and papa are so proud of Xuan! :p Loud cheers and claps to Xuan!!

When the performance is over, Xuan still remember to turn back to wave to mummy before going back to the backstage. :)

Even didi enjoyed my performance too! hahaha

I definitely deserve a lollipop after my encouraging performance! :p

1st Meet Parent Conference

Last Tuesday, Mummy attended Xuan's 1st Meet Parent Session. A one to one meetup with Xuan's teachers to discuss on Xuan's performance in school.

Last month, there was a Meet Parent Conference too with the principal although it was on a group basis. Last month session was more of a chance for the principal to demonstrate on the teaching methodologies adopted in the school and a platform for the parents to gather and meet to provide and hear each other feedback. It was a quite a fruitful 2 hours. Mummy was also happy cos it is a chance to meet my Xuan's friends' mummies and to make new friends. At the end of the session, there were exchange of emails and numbers. :) Mummy likes such session although it means having to take more vacation leave from work.

Ms Fiona told mummy that Xuan has adapted well to school and is used to the routine timetable. Xuan particularly enjoy drama class, yoga class, music and dance time and chinese class. There is also a Progress Report file detailing all the different aspect of progression for the year.

Next year, Xuan will be in Nursery 2 and mummy and papa hopes that Xuan will have a even more fruitful and fun learning year!

Year end concert

Xuan is going to end my school term in N1 soon in 3 weeks time. Currently, the school term has officially ended and Xuan is currently on holiday programme extended by the school. Mummy is glad that there is holiday programme cos otherwise, Xuan would be bored at home for 1 and a half month. Mummy proclaimed that she is not being kiasu cos she would rather Xuan having fun with planned activities than staring at the TV whole day long.

Mummy could tell that Xuan is happily enjoying myself cos the school is in a festive mood. Xuan has learnt a couple of xmas songs and I really enjoy singing them. Xuan enjoys "performing" for mummy, papa, didi and ah ma everyday when I am back from school. :D Beside that, Xuan also did a few xmas little gifts in school.. the gingerbread man biscuits (which i have eaten up), the clay figurines of xmas tree, star and gingerbread man, mini xmas tree on a cup....

My art work from school..

Another exciting upcoming event is Xuan's year end concert next week. Yes! I am going to perform. :) I am going to be a dancing flower. How exciting! Mummy and papa have gotten my attire and accessories all ready for the show time. Xuan and papa have brought the neatly ironed dress and my flowery accessories of hair band, wrist collage etc to school last Monday for rehearsal.

Counting down to 3

Xuan will celebrate my 3rd birthday in about 2 weeks time. I am very happy and excited! Looking forward to the celebration party. Looking forward to see the cakes that mummy and papa have specially customised and ordered for me.

The birthday themes for this year celebration are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Hello Kitty. Both are Xuan's current HOT favourite! Papa has delegated the task of ordering the cake to Mummy! For more than 2 weeks, mummy was very busy, making use of whatever time she has, on the internet, surfing high and low for cakes. It was a challenging task. Mummy said. It was especially so when you hope for the best choice. Shortlisting to final choice was a tough decision. And for now, mummy is glad that orders have been placed! Now we are all waiting very eagerly to see the cakes!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DEAR Mummy!!

We celebrated mummy's birthday on October 29!

Papa bought a lovely cake for mummy! Xuan can't stop thinking about the cake till mummy and papa decided that we shall have the cake cutting before dinner.. hehehe..

Papa told me that he had taken mummy out for a date in the day for celebration. Papa and mummy hardly had any chance to go dating on their own ever since Xuan and didi are born. We are always together whereever mummy and papa go.. :)

our lovely family shot.

Special birthday song specially for mummy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to ah ma

We celebrated ah ma (paternal) birthday this year with a sumptuous dinner at a Chinese restaurant at Liang Court this year. :) We love the food and the ambience of the tastefully decorated restaurant! Papa and mummy were glad that we had the dinner in advance for ah ma's birthday cos Xuan and didi were unwell in the week of ah ma's birthday.

Thank you ah ma for taking care of Xuan and didi well while papa and mummy work. :)

Xuan wishes ah ma HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Hi there

It has been almost a month since the last post.

It had been a busy month of October. What best to describe mummy and papa’s month of October- hectic, worrying, sleepless nights, frustration but of course there were happy days too.. like celebrating lantern festival where Xuan and didi went round the neighbourhood with our colourful lanterns, eating moon cakes, surfing high and low for cakes for me and didi(!!!)and of course birthday celebrations! Xuan will write and share...

Celebrating Lantern Festival..

Xuan and didi with our colourful lanterns.

Xuan likes my colouful lantern very much!

Xuan was excited to see many other little friends with their beautiful lanterns in the neighhourhood areas. However, we had to walk along the covered sideway as it was drizzling that night. Xuan and didi had an enjoyable walk under the moonlight. :) 3 CHEERS to 2009 Lantern Festival!

Xuan also had a good time eating mooncakes and pancakes that papa bought back from Korea. But guess what, Xuan came down with a bad flu and cough shortly after lantern festival.  As usual, the cough always turned for the worse at night time and Xuan threw up from persistent coughing for 5 consecutive nights. With prior experience, mummy and papa were more prepared and the mess was considered minimal compared to the past. However, it was still a heartache to see Xuan throwing up in this way. By the 6th day when mummy and papa were relieved to see Xuan showing visible sign of recovery (no more vomitting), didi caught the flu bug from me!

That was just one episode.

The 2nd episode began when Xuan came down with fever unexpectedly when we thought Xuan is already recovering. So for the next few days and nights, Xuan’s fever went on roller coaster ride. We even had to make a trip to Raffles Hospital family clinic at one of the night cos Xuan was restless, not drinking and not eating at all. After consultation with the GP, mummy and papa decided to make a call to Dr Toh to see me instead of sending me to KK. Our lovely Dr Toh came in shortly. Dr Toh is great and her friendly disposition always managed to make me comfortable enough to let her touch and check me. Mummy and papa have great confidence in Dr Toh and the possibility of H1N1 is ruled out. After 3 days of medication, Xuan gradually recovered. Thanks goodness!

3rd episode

Didi caught my fever virus! For the next few days, papa and mummy had sleepless nightsss attending to both of us. Taking our temperature every 1hr+, jumping up in anxiety as temperature hit 39 degrees, feeding medicine.... the stressful days and nights.

4th episode

Mummy had a bad fall on one fine morning. Mummy has just finished showering for didi and going to get him ready before bringing him to see Dr Toh. While trying to get down the bed, mumyy tripped over the quilt and landed hard on the floor and hit herself on the wall too. While mummy held did tight close to her, hoping to shield him from the knock, didi still has a bump on his forehead. Didi was crying and crying so loudly. It must be a bad fright and a painful bump. Mummy could not stand up instantly from the fall. The sharp pain on the knee and right arm is excruciating. Mummy was so guilty. Nothing is more important and painful than seeing little didi’s bump and painful cries.

Till now, mummy’s right arm has not fully recovered.

Mummy said..."slowly slowly.. it will heal..."

On the road...

Whenever we are on the road, mummy will try to have some fun with me and didi who are sitting on her right and left. We sing song, talk about what we see on the road, play peek-a-boo with didi...I know that papa would very much like to join us but papa.. you got to drive diligently for your 3 darlings okie! hahaha :)

Mummy trying her best to hold the camera as steady as possible to catch Xuan and didi's smile and wink! Not easy ya although the ride is not that bumpy.

By the way, Xuan has a new song adapted from the Wheels on the Bus. It goes like this..

The wheels on the car goes round and round.. round and round..
The papa in the car goes drive drive drive.. drive drive drive.... all through the town.

and mummy has the following version:

Our Ning Xuan in the car goes sing sing sing.. sing sing sing..all through the town.
Our didi in the car goes smile smile smile.. smile smile smile..all through the town.

My 1st school Excursion

Last Friday, Xuan went for my 1st school excursion! :)

Xuan was excited cos mummy told Xuan that we are going to sit in a big bus to go and watch a play at esplanade. Xuan has never taken a big coach before. Papa sent Xuan and mummy to school in the morning and went off thereafter to attend to some work. Mummy stayed with Xuan and accompany me to my 1st school excursion. It was Xuan's 1st experience to watch a play at esplanade.

Waiting eagerly and patiently for the bus to start the journey. :)

We had a nice ride on the bus to esplanade with my friends, teachers and other mummies. We cheer, we sang songs.. (good morning song, wheels on the bus....) in English, Mandarin and Japanese. :)

Xuan is elated to be on a big bus!

Mummy and Xuan enjoyed the play very much. It was a very interesting play about a duck, a chicken and an owl laying egg. This is the 1st time that Xuan attended a live performance. A good experience. There is no stage separation between the performers and the audience. It was a very close exchange. Xuan was so immersed in the play that Xuan stood up and sway to the music with the performers at one point of the play. Ms Linda (one of the teachers) complimented me for the dance!

Complimentary sticker from esplanade. It also serves as an identification for entry into the studio purpose.

Queuing up to go to the Studio.

Our group photo after the play. Xuan class is called the "Junior Da Vinci".

I am here!

Mummy enjoyed the experience and told papa that we can return for more show in future on our own. It is certainly better than going round aimlessly in shopping mall on weekend.

Xuan went round esplanade after the show taking pictures with mummy after the play. :)

After the play, papa returned to meet me and mummy for lunch, ice cream and shopping! Xuan loves fountains so mummy and papa decided that we shall lunch by a fountain that day. We had a very fullfiling lunch and decided that we need to take a walk to digest the food before Xuan return for my ice cream treat! hehehe...

Colouring materials from the restaurant keeps Xuan occupied while waiting for the food.

Smelling good cappucino for mummy!

haha.. Princess Xuan shopping for shoes!

My new golden princess shoe! Pretty? :)

Ice cream treat at Ben & Jerry!

Enjoying my ice cream by the fountain! So cool.

Xuan had a wonderful friday!

Special day to remember Ah Zuo

Today is lunar calendar August 16 and it is dear ah Zuo's birthday.

Although ah Zuo is in heaven, jiujius and mummy have bought a cake to pray to ah Zuo. A ice cream cake from Swenson. It is ah Zuo's favourite.

Time passes in a blink of an eye. It is almost a year since ah Zuo left us. It feels like yesterday. Mummy still remember vividly how we celebrated ah Zuo's birthday last year. As usual, we brought Ah Zuo out for dinner and we had birthday song and cake cutting. Looking back, ah Zuo was already quite frail at her birthday celebration last year. Mummy was thinking, "would ah Zuo be missing all of us on this day?" We have the same celebration in our own way every year. Simple but happy.

As we prayed to ah Zuo, lots of memories flow back. Tears welled up in mummy's eyes as we prayed to ah Zuo. We hope Ah Zuo had enjoyed the ice cream and will be smiling happily in heaven looking at us.

Regardless of where ah Zuo is, how many years down the road, August 16 is a day we all remember in our heart. On this day, we all know that we will all quietly wish our dearest Ah Zuo happy birthday deep in our heart.

Mummy said, "ah ma, 生日快乐“。

Taking pictures

Mummy enjoying taking pictures of me and didi together. However, mummy exclaimed that it is a highly difficult task cos it is so tough to get us keeping still at the same moment, looking at the camera at the same moment, smiling sweet at the same moment.

See these pictures and you know what Xuan means.. heheh :p

Xuan's schooling update..

More update on Xuan's schooling...

Xuan is settling well in school now. Every morning, Xuan will usually wake up by 8 or 8.05am by herself. A self timer. If otherwise, ah ma will wake Xuan up for school. "Xuan, wake up! Time for school. Let's see who is faster. Don't let papa wait for u!! We will win papa!" That is how ah ma got Xuan up. :) (Mummy has went to work. Mummy has opted to start at 8am so that she can be home earlier in the evening for me and didi. :) Mummy said that she will not be able to get me ready for school even she starts work at 8.30 cos she would have to leave home by 8am too. Mummy would very much like to wash me up, change for me, tie my hair everyday but mummy is sad that she can't.)

Xuan is so used to papa driving her to school every morning. Last friday, mummy was on medical leave but decided to bring Xuan to school before going to see a doctor. When Xuan saw papa getting ready to go to work, Xuan got anxious and asked, "papa, wait for me!" And guess what, Xuan is still in pyjamas! hahaha..

Mummy is glad to see that Xuan getting "seasoned" to the routine. Xuan gave mummy a hug and kiss before waving goodbye and then happily running toward the school's playground last friday. Mummy stood from far to watch me. Even though when mummy attempted to hide behind the blacked tinted glass door, i spotted mummy!!! hahaha..

Xuan brought back my violin back from school last friday. Xuan is excited and kept asking mummy to take out the violin. :) Mummy and papa are still studying hard how to play violin. Mummy thought that papa may be better than her but papa shaked his head too after he tried playing my violin. hahahaha...Mummy self confessed that she is not musically inclined. But for Xuan's sake, mummy is starting to read up on violin and contemplating signing up a crash course for violin. Time is the main consideration now.

Flowery Crocs

See Xuan's creativity on last Saturday! Xuan gave her Crocs shoe a new look using the flowers from our door mat while waiting for mummy, papa and didi.

Pretty?

It has been a week..

It has been a week since Xuan started school. Thanks gracious goodness .. everything has been smooth. It has been quite a nervous week for mummy. :P Both Xuan and mummy are adapting together.

Mummy and papa can tell that it has not been an easy week for Xuan. Beside adapting to school, another hurdle is not getting enough sleep. Xuan has not been able to fall asleep until 12am+ for the last few days. Anxiety?? On Tuesday night, Xuan sang to herself happily when lying on the bed. Lots of hands sign and giggles to herself. If you recall in earlier post, Xuan is used to falling asleep quite late.

Mummy and papa are anxious and worried that Xuan will be tire out with the insufficient sleep. The afternoon nap has also been shorten. On thursday evening, Xuan was down with bad flu. :( On friday morning, Xuan woke up and was feeling ok. So we went to school but at the later timing (after the outdoor play session).

In the initial few evenings, Xuan was also not as energetic as she used to be. Although Xuan woke up at the same time in the morning whether a not she attends school, she would have used up her energy in the day when she goes to school. Before school, there is nothing much to do throughout the day to expend her high energy level.. watching television, walking around the house, reading, drawing, colouring, singing….+ 2 to 3 hrs nap time! So don’t you agree that it is definitely healthier for Xuan to go school now that I am going to be 3 years old! In school, there are colouring and painting, music and movement, water play, drama play, fine arts appreciation, yoga, violin, pre-math and pre-science exposure ... and many friends. And most importantly is to develop social skill, emotional and character development.

This transitional period will be a little more tough for little Xuan. Mummy and papa hope that (and are optimistic) that it will be better in 1 or 2 weeks times. Most important task now is to ensure that Xuan gets into a good routine of at least 9 sleeping hours. Mummy and papa said that sufficient quality sleeping is vital for young children’s brain development and health reason. Mummy is sure that Xuan will be back to her energetic self once she adapts into the routine activities and sleeping hours. Xuan can do it!

Xuan will try. Mummy and papa will help and cheer for me!

Xuan walking hand-in-hand to school with mummy. Along the way, Xuan kept asking mummy, "where is Xuan's school? Are we reaching?

Another interesting observation. Xuan misses her TV time!

Since Wednesday morning, she has asked to watch her DVD while drinking milk and before she washes up for school. Once back home in the afternoon, she will again ask to watch her DVD. Mickey mouse, wheels on the bus…. Xuan’s favourite!

Then on friday morning, Xuan was watching Dora. When Xuan saw mummy getting ready, Xuan said, "ah ma, off the tv. I am going to school already!" :D

7 September 2009. Xuan’s 1st day of school!

Xuan officially attended school on Monday! :)

This post is especially important cos it marks and documents all moods and feelings of Xuan's 1st day in school. Mummy hopes to note down all feelings so that Xuan can recount back when I am older.. sure memorable.

mummy's voice:
Seeing little Xuan in uniform made mummy so excited. Mix feeling of excitement, anxiety, worries, happiness. .mummy said.

On Sunday night, I carefully ironed her uniforms straight and smart, labelled her Minnie Mouse school bag, Dora water bottle, pack her extra set of uniform, little pinky towel all neatly in her pinky bag. We are all ready for school!

Excited and happy cos my girl is going to officially attend pre-school daily. She is going to have fun playing and learning in school every day (I hope!!).. All mummies will understand what all these excitement I am talking about.. hehe.. my baby girl has grown up!

Anxiety and worries cos I don’t know if she will cry, if she will pee or poo in her pants (Xuan is toilet trained but she can have “accidents” if she is too engrossed in play or when she is fearful of the new environment), if she will eat well, if she will be hungry, if she will be roaming here and there around the school and WHAT IF teacher didn’t notice her, if she will be happy…. (the list just gets longer longer..)

Been preparing Xuan for school over the last few weeks by telling her about attending school, taking school bus, how she needs to listen to teachers, how she needs to take care of herself, how she needs to be careful when playing outdoor, how she needs to be tell teachers that she needs to pee, reading story book on going school..

1st day
When I saw Xuan having great fun at the outdoor play session on Monday morning, I am glad. Simple happiness. Running around, sliding down, swinging, driving the bugging car.. and calling out happily to me as she slided down. Ya.. I thought this is definitely healthier than spending her morning watching her DVDs (though educational). And you can expect this anxious mummy there who kept reminding "be careful.. be careful..".. watch out of this and that.. haha.. :p

When it was time to clean up and go back to class, guess what happen?! A Japanese boy ran toward Xuan (specially chosen Xuan!) voluntarily offered to hold her hand to go back to class together while other kids walked in tow or by themselves, the teacher looked at me and we both laughed! Hahaha… my girl has her little charm ya! Hahhaa.. they look so adorable, like a little couple. Hahaha..

Xuan started off her 1st day in school so brave so steady! She waved good bye to me and didn’t cry. I was surprised and very glad. I decided to go back home after 3 hours of "stand-by" outside the school. However, the principal called me after lunch, informing that Xuan was crying badly and loudly for me.

When I reached the school, Xuan was sobbing so sadly in one of her mandarin teacher’s arms. Her cheeks were red, her hair were wet, she was perspiring, she was choking with tears. She looked really sad as though she has been deserted. She cried out loudly when she saw me and keep repeating,”mummy, I cannot find you.” Sound so angry, so sad, so unbelievable kind of tone..I feel so bad, so wrong. She must have felt so fearful, so scare. But she really had a good start in the morning.

Nevertheless, I brought her home cos I can tell that Xuan is tired after the cries. Being the 1st day, I didn’t want to stress her too. (Xuan is attending 6 hrs school daily). Afterall, She has been by herself for solid 4 hours on the 1st day. Good enough I thought.

And guess what, when Xuan came out of the lift at our block, the 1st thing she asked, “Where is Kai kai?” hahaha…. Jiejie misses didi ya. :)

2nd day
The principal told me that Xuan is more manageable today. Teacher Fiona wrote in her little feedback notebook that Xuan has a more positive day. Although she still cried now and then whenever she thought of me, thought of home, she calmed down after a while. And I think the duration of her cries is getting shorter. I am glad. I waited outside the school in the afternoon and heard lots of singing and laughters as well as cries too (some other children). Xuan managed to have a full session on the 2nd day (without me appearing). I decided to accompany her home on her school bus for the 1st time. I am glad that it is a short ride and we reached home really fast (within 5 minutes). Xuan has always been excited about the school bus ride! :)

After shower, we have strawberry cookies as treat for her improvement and bravery! Xuan told us that she will not cry tomorrow. We made a pact and have a good Hi-5 and promise on more cookies, stickers and ice cream!

I am looking forward to her tearless days to come in school. I am looking forward to her sharing with me what fun she has in school, what she does, what she learn, what new songs she sang, what she ate, what she drew and paint, show (and teach) me the children yoga, and how she has learnt to play violin.. or even how to hold a violin first!

From now onward, I have additional daily task to do.. checking her little notebook for teacher's notes to parent, any form to complete. Just yesterday, there is a consent form on allowing the child to take part in the school year-end concert (a drama play) and today, there are more forms and letters! An updated curriculum for next term (Saw the time table and it looks really interesting. Hope it will be and Xuan will enjoy it.). A calendar of event for next year (how fast!). A consent form for school excursion in October - watching a kids' drama play at Esplanade! And for sure, I will attend with Xuan! hahaha..

Didi woke up early to give jiejie morale support! Xuan gave didi a good bye kiss before going to school. :)

I am ready!

My friend gave me a Dora sticker!

See how Xuan enjoyed herself! My 2 Japanese friends gladly help to push me around in the buggy car! hahaha..

My wardrobe

Xuan noted some new additions to my wardrobe last weekend. I am so happy.
A Hello Kitty denim dress. A sweet pink and white Korean style baby doll dress. A pair of stripy leggings with pretty lace. A pinky “Kawaii” Bermuda. A black and white polka dot top. A layer denim skirt..

Xuan was telling papa and mummy:

“ This pink dress for wearing to ah ma house! This hello kitty dress for shopping….. This apple top for wearing to eat apple (!!!)..…” hahaha...

>
I like my hello kitty sleeping gown.. :)

Shopping spree

Xuan has my shopping spree done for school last weekend.

See my pinky Minnie Mouse school bag and Dora water bottle!

Mummy and papa realised that Xuan has a collection of Dora items at home now. Dora utensils and plate, Dora Cros shoe, Dora DVD, Dora Tee and now Dora water bottle. :)

We went hunting and trying for a pair of girly shoe for me but we didn’t manage to find any pretty ones. Xuan will continue to shop.. shop…

Enjoying learning in my way

Mummy and Xuan enjoy learning through our daily chat and play! Be in sloughing at the sofa, sitting on bed… we always make it comfortable and relaxing. The conventional way of learning by sitting down on chair and around a table before lots of book is definitely outdated for us. :p

Counting

Mummy is happy to share that Xuan has learnt how to count! From 2 items to 3 items last night.

Mummy and Xuan were reading last night and mummy was causally pointing to a picture of 3 balls and to mummy’s surprise, Xuan said,”mummy, I like the 3 balls!”
Xuan did not use her magic pointer to count! Xuan knew that there are 3 balls by looking at it. Kids’ mental photograhic counting? Mummy wasn’t sure. In any case, mummy is thrilled.

Xuan is watching Richard Scarly Best Counting Video best ever currently and mummy thinks that the VCD has done its fair part.

Day of the week
Xuan has a magnetic board with day of the week and mini magnets of stars and animals to complete.

Last Monday, Xuan sang the “Day of the week” song as she arranged the magnets.
“Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday……Saturday” Another surprise for mummy! Although Xuan tends to miss out Thursday and Sunday, mummy thought that it is already great cos we only sing and humm the song once in a while.

This magnetic board is also great for learning how to count. E.g Mummy will ask for 2or 3 stars from Xuan to paste on the row of Monday and Xuan will happily look for them and pass to mummy. Xuan has so far got everything correct. Mummy is still learning from the internet for more interesting ideas and games to learn math and numbers with Xuan!

What is the time now?
Xuan: Mummy, our clock has no numbers.
(we read the time by the stroke on the clock)
Mummy: Xuan wants to see the number on the clock and read the time?
Xuan: Ya mummy..
Mummy: Shall we go and buy a clock with number for Xuan?
Xuan: yes!!!!

New shopping agenda for this weekend: A number clock!! 
