We met Dora and Boots!

We met Dora and Boots at Toyrus 3 weekends ago!
Thanks to dajiujiu, we managed to get a queue number and took a snap!

Although Xuan likes Dora a lot, she is still a bit overwhelmed by the size of the Dora and Boots mascots. Xuan clinged onto papa tightly while stealing a peek now and then at Dora and Boots.

Last weekend, Xuan has a new addition to my Dora collection. It is a set of Dora bedsheets! Hooray!

Xuan is promoted.

Xuan is here to share a good new. The enrichment class that Xuan is attending has just assessed me ready to move up from the foundation level to the next level just after a term.

Xuan has just started my English enrichment class at a new centre in July and so far, Xuan enjoys the lessons. :) It is an ability-based structured school where little children like me will be placed in the respective suitable level upon assessment at enrolment. As Xuan is only 3+, Xuan has been slanted to commence from the foundation stage. The teacher informed mummy then that Xuan most probably may not need to complete the full foundation course.

In the next level, Xuan will be in a class of mix age group from 4 to 5 years old instead of all 4 years old since it is an ability-based class. Xuan’s learning and exposure will be more widen. More skills will be taught such as oral presentation, picture description, blending sounds and decoding words etc.

Well done Xuan!

Fun at ExplorerKidz

In early September, Xuan could not attend Qiqi meimei's birthday party cos mummy, papa and Xuan were down with stomach flu. :(

Nevertheless, Xuan and didi make up for it by joining Qi meimei at Explorerkidz on her actual birthday! We had so much fun! This is Xuan's first visit to big indoor playground and I have so much fun and excitment! Thanks to da jiujiu's invitation and mummy and papa who brought me and didi there for an afternoon of fun! Mummy has a fun and "hard" time going through the playground with me and Qi meimei. haha.. For first timers like us, we had a big after-shock from the 2 big slides! hahahaa..

Didi had so much fun at the mega pool of balls that he didnt leave there for so long! haha.. however, didi did join us at the later time at the big playground. My didi may be young, but he could slowly make his way up with determination! haahaha...

Mini Roasted Piglets.. oink oink

Lunar Lantern Festival is still 2 weeks away but papa bought these piglets for us last week.

Both of us "cornered" mummy to open the piglet almost immediately.

Xuan finished half of the piglet that evening. ;)

We will be going to shop for lanterns this weekend :D

Chopping and stamping..

Xuan and didi had our 1st experience doing pattering, in short "chopping" using cut-out carrots. It took less than 10 minutes for mummy to do the simple craving of shapes such as star, strip and "X". :D

Mummy realised that the craving is not very well done as the carrot surface is not even enough for the pattern to be visible seen after "chopping". This will definitely be remembered in mind in the next craving exercise. :)

Very careful and quiet moment..

Quiet individual chopping time..

Xuan's drawing is getting more and more interesting recently. Xuan can start drawing whenever drawing papers and coloured pencils are available.

School family day trip to Farm Mart

Last week, Xuan visited the Farm Mart at Choa Chu Kang. It was Xuan's school family day outing. Both papa and mummy were of course there with me! :)

Instead of following the coach from school, papa and mummy decided that we shall make our way there by car so that we can proceed with our own activities thereafter without following the coach back to school. :) It was a long journey from home but Xuan and mummy do not feel it! Do you know why?! hahaha.. Both of us were enjoying MacDonald breakfast at the back while papa concentrate on the road. This is an exception cos mummy and papa do not allow eating in the car to avoid ants and cockroaches! hehe..

At the Farm, Xuan had fun encounter with terrapins, frogs, rabbits, quail, goat, fishes, chicks... Xuan do not dare to feed the goat. Even for rabbits, Xuan chose to "throw" the carrot into the cage. Xuan said, "the rabbits can take themselves later!" hahaha... what a city girl! More farm visit seem neccessary isn't it? hehehe.. But Xuan and friends have most fun feeding the fishes cos the fishes are in the pond (a distance!) and all the children simply enjoy the throwing the feeds into the pond. haha..

Xuan also gets to eat fresh quail eggs, nuggets provided by the farmers. We also have a short talk conducted by the farmers on the different types of chicken, quail, birds and eggs.

Happy and cheeky Xuan on the way to Farm Mart.

Hi there!

Listening attentively to the farmer explaining the differences between a mummy frog and a papa frog.

Big fat terrapins.

I enjoy feeding the fishes!!

Enjoying reading :)

Mummy and papa's lovely Xuan forever..

Xuan loves to read. :D

Xuan’s exposure to sight words is progressing well. In fact, Xuan is proficient and could recognize hundreds of highly sight words up to K2 level now (based on the Dolch sight words listing).

With this exposure to sight words, Xuan could read many simple story books meant for early readers quite independently. Now Xuan is in level 2 for those readers’ series such as Usborne, Scholastic, Peter and Jane. Beside these collections, Xuan has many interesting story books bought from internet and various bookstores. In fact, mummy is increasing finding hard to find storage space in our book shelves.

Last night, Xuan asked to read Peter and Jane book 4b last night. This is the first time we read this book and much to mummy's surprise and delight, we finished it (50 pages and average 10 short sentences) in about 20 minutes. As mummy read, Xuan could follow and continue from where mummy paused. Now, Xuan is ready to proceed to book 5a and 5b, which mummy gathered from internet that this level is for 5 to 7 years old young readers. :D

Recently, Xuan has taken an interest into simple writing and showing curiousity on how a word is being spelt. Xuan will ask mummy on how a word is spelt and she will write out letter by letter as mummy spelt for her. :D

On phonic progress, Xuan is also able to hear and get the first sounds of words correctly so far. With these, Xuan could tell which letter does a particular word begin with, even she has not learn the spelling of the word before.

Coupled with exposure to phonic in pre-school and enrichment class, mummy hopes that Xuan will be able to enjoy reading with even more confidence and greater ease. The effort of cultivating healthy reading before bed time since young is reaping results! Every night, Xuan will insist on reading before bed time. It has become a daily routine. :D
