Meet teacher session

Mummy met teacher 2 weeks ago for the meet parent session.

Xuan is generally doing well especially reading. However, there is 1thing that we need to work on – Attention span and ability to concentrate for longer time without being distracted easily. But we all know that attention span and ability to concentrate is very vital skill for effective learning. The feedback is something not surprising to mummy who follows my growing up and learning closely.

Fortunately, Xuan has 2 very experienced and passionate teachers who really care about the children, who is really passionate about educating the young generation.

So we will continue to work hard on this area, with more focus activities, more encouragement, more reminders, and when needed, be firm. As Xuan’s dearest mummy, mummy believes that Xuan can do it. And as Xuan’s dearest mummy, I have the responsibility to facilitate, to guide, to impart the correct attitude and values. Xuan just needs more time, more individual attention on this development. Let's allow our Xuan more time to grow, to develop and perhaps Xuan will mature in this area as she reaches 5 this November. In fact, Xuan has shown a lot of improvement since she started school.

As what mummy and papa always tell Xuan and didi, “Darling, you can do it!”

Cooking excursion

Remember about the cooking excursion that Xuan mentioned about the holiday programme earlier on? :)

Finally after the long anticipation, we went for our cooking excursion on Thursday. Xuan and friends were all excited when on the coach. Although there were only 12 of us in the class, all the mummies lamented that we were so noisy. haha.. actually the mummies and daddies added to the noise as they got busy catching up with each other. hahaha.. There were 3 distinct groups of parents. One group of Japanese. One group of Koreans and another group consisting of the local mummies and one American born Chinese mummy. However, all of Xuan's japanese classmates' mummies could understand and speak English and so there is good exchange too.

The cooking excursion is led by the Italian chef of the restaurant. He was humourous and slowly explained and guided the children step by step to cut the cherry tomatoes, shred the basil before tossing them together. Next, the children were also required to beat an egg. This step came easy for Xuan as she has lots of experience beating eggs at home. Xuan always asks to beat the eggs during mummy's cooking time and of course not forgetting our baking sessions. Xuan's skilful beat caught her principal's eyes and soon many other mummies joined in singing praises of Xuan. hehe.. :D Next each child was given a big piece of chicken breast meat. They pat the chicken in the tray of flour, followed by coating it in the bowl of beaten egg and finally patting the chicken again in another tray of bread crumbs. haha.. This was a rare golden opportunity for Xuan as mummy has not yet let her have the chance to handle raw poultry, let alone all the marinating work. We could see all the serious look on every child's face. We guess it should probaly be everyone's first experience. However, it was obvious that they enjoyed it. All the mummies only lent their helping hands when needed. Thereafter, the chickens were brought to the kitchen for deep frying.

Xuan and friends were served with the breaded chicken that they prepared earlier on together with chips and cherry tomatoes while the mummies and daddies chose from the set lunches available.

All of us had a fulfilling lunch. That was not the end of the fun! After the lunch, 2 of Xuan's classmates' mummies decided to join Xuan and mummy to Paragon when they learnt that we were going to the Paragon playground and art and craft corner. Xuan and friends were elated as we took the bus from robertson Quay to Orchard. While the children had fun, the mummies had a good time sitting down chatting away too. Mummy was glad of the opportunity to befriend Xuan's classmates' mummies who are nice friendly folks.

We look forward to the next excursion! :)

End of term report

This is a rather long outstanding post.

Xuan brought back her Observation Report File home on the last day of the term together with lots of her art works, writing work done in school in the last 2 terms. :)

According to the Observation file, Xuan is getting more matured in school in all aspects such as using of materials for assigned work, interaction with friends etc. According to teacher, Xuan particularly enjoys individual reading time, could recognise many high frequency words and could also spell many of the high frequency words. The spelling part is a little bit surprising to mummy as Xuan wasn't really keen in spelling at home. We have not started practising spelling at home but at times, when mummy tried to "test" Xuan on certain words spelling, the confidence does not seem to be there. Nevertheless, mummy will find out more from the teacher in the coming meet-the teacher session.

In chinese class, the teacher commented that Xuan is comfortable in using Mandarin to interact during the Chinese class. She could recognise and read quite a number of Chinese story books in the class. Xuan is also getting better in her strokes when writing chinese characters. The areas to work on are attention span and concentration level.

Vegetables printing.

Map of neighbourhood. Quite accurate in fact!

Frogs

Picture of mummy! Mummy asked Xuan of the droplet of water around the eyes and Xuan said," That is your perspiration. You just came back from work. " hahaha..

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to our dear papa.

Both Xuan and Kai enjoy and like papa's company. They are always thrill when papa is back home from work every evening. Both will run to the door to get the 1st hug. :) Both Xuan and didi specially like to climb on papa's shoulders and all over him. They specially enjoy the fun of sliding down papa's long legs. This is something that they can't do with mummy cos mummy would not be able to take their weight. hahaha..

We love our dear papa! :D

More long kang fishing.. :)

After our visit to National Musuem, guess where we go?

Long Kang fishing again! hahaha... this time round, we went Qian Hu. The place is neater, bigger and cleaner but the fishes there are 3x or even 4x more difficult to catch. In addition, the net on loan here is small and shallow. High challenge. Xuan and didi perspired hard as we ran round finding ways and means to corner the fishes!

Visit to Museum

It was Museum Day last Sunday and mummy and papa decided to bring Xuan and didi to National Musuem to participate the various activities. :) This is the 2nd year we participate in Museum Day activities. :)

We visited the National Museum and upon entry, Xuan is attracted by the badges making corner. Xuan and didi could choose from a picture to colour. After colouring, we bring our picture to station for lamination and stamping onto the badges! Xuan completed 4 badges altogether. Didi made a few strokes and was thereafter more interested in making his rounds to other tables and surroundings.. hahaha..

We then proceeded to other areas for other activities such as The Playdome etc. It was an overall pleasant experience. Compared to last year when we visited the Art Museum where Xuan wasn't that focus in the activities, Xuan showed more maturity and understanding this year. She listened when the musuem crew explained the game rules to her and she was able to start a conversation with the crew confidently by herself. This is a good sign as Xuan used to be quite shy particularly with others when she was younger.
