Sayonara diapers!

You may surprise with the title of the post?! haha..

Xuan is already 4 years and 8 months old. Why diaper? haha..
Yes, Xuan is already toilet trained when she was about 25 months old. However, we have not been able to train Xuan to go to bed at night without it. Reason being Xuan drinks a lot of drink before bed time and Xuan is a deep sleeper. It is tough to wake her up for toilet. She would be very very grouchy and unhappy in the middle of the night.

However, when we ran out of diaper one day about 2 months ago, we decided to tell Xuan that supermarket has ran out of the size. Everywhere is out of stock and from that night onwards, we have to wake up for toilet. Mummy repeatedly assured Xuan that we will help her and wake her up but Xuan has to help herself and us by not being unhappy and crying for being woken up. With the assurance and encouragment, Xuan thought for a while and nodded. To facilitate that, we also moved the milk time (240ml) an hour earlier before bed time. And if Xuan asks for little more before bed, we just gave her another 60ml to give her the comfort. With that, we'll wake Xuan for toilet once just after midnight before mummy and papa go to bed.

And YES, Xuan did it! And so, sayonara to diapers forever!!!!

Parent Volunteer

In a blink of an eye, mummy and papa need to start planning and work on hunting and targeting a primary school for our dearest little girl, Xuan. It seems not too long ago that she is still drinking milk in our arms, still sleeping beside us, still baby talking.. how time flies!

To prepare Xuan for entry to the preferred primary school in 2013 within reasonable close proximity to our home, mummy and papa have submitted application to do parent volunteer in our preferred school last year to get a chance to enter the school and just last month, mummy has started her volunteering work at the School’s art festival.

Not that it is the top 10 schools or so. Not that mummy and papa are too free for nothing. We just hope to provide Xuan and didi a chance to study in a better environment school. It is a slightly above average primary school and definitely a better choice in our areas. Mummy and papa visited 2 of the better schools around our neighbourhood, did some brief observations. We finally decided on THE ONE. We like the clean and relatively spacious environment. The children look discipline and well behaved which is very important. We like the strong Chinese culture environment in the school too. So let’s just get on with our volunteer work to hit the 40hours, cross our fingers in July 2012 and hopefully, we can secure a place smoothly.

We have heard of many instances of how parents go to extreme measures to secure a place in primary school. Some of mummies' friends, Xuan's classmates' parents did 80 hrs PV, buy property, join clan association, with the hope to get a place. While many non-parents people may think this is ridiculous (which both mummy and papa used to think so too in the past), only the parents will understand. Well, there is no right or wrong. Everyone has the right to deploy their best strategy for the best of their children.

Papa brought all of us downstair for some shots on 1 fine Sunday afternoon. :)

Meet teacher session

Mummy met teacher 2 weeks ago for the meet parent session.

Xuan is generally doing well especially reading. However, there is 1thing that we need to work on – Attention span and ability to concentrate for longer time without being distracted easily. But we all know that attention span and ability to concentrate is very vital skill for effective learning. The feedback is something not surprising to mummy who follows my growing up and learning closely.

Fortunately, Xuan has 2 very experienced and passionate teachers who really care about the children, who is really passionate about educating the young generation.

So we will continue to work hard on this area, with more focus activities, more encouragement, more reminders, and when needed, be firm. As Xuan’s dearest mummy, mummy believes that Xuan can do it. And as Xuan’s dearest mummy, I have the responsibility to facilitate, to guide, to impart the correct attitude and values. Xuan just needs more time, more individual attention on this development. Let's allow our Xuan more time to grow, to develop and perhaps Xuan will mature in this area as she reaches 5 this November. In fact, Xuan has shown a lot of improvement since she started school.

As what mummy and papa always tell Xuan and didi, “Darling, you can do it!”
