Time really flies when children are schooling.
Mommy has intended to pen down the following updates during June holiday but wasn't able to. Term 3 has commenced and yes, we better quickly get it done!
Xuan has crossed the 1st half mark of P1 journey!
Xuan is already very familiar with school routine. Starting from term 2, she has been visiting the school library very week to borrow some books with her student card. She was so excited when she received her student card. This is as though her 1st identity card! She went round showing everyone in the house the minute she reached home.
She loves going to school and commented that she wish that there is no school holiday(!!). We suppose she feels bored being at home for 4 weeks. Her favourite lesson is PE and music. Her favourite subject is English.
There was a PTC on the last day of term 2. Chinese teacher commented that Xuan was so much less reserved in term 2 and she often raised her hands to answer questions and go up to the board to provide answer. There is vast improvement in penmanship and she is a polite and helpful student in class. Form teacher commented that Xuan is well behaved and generally a quiet child .
The assessment grading for English comes from show and tell, sound discrimination and reading. Being an avid reader, Xuan scored full mark for reading. According to teacher, Xuan’s show and tell performance is on par with the class general performance. Her sound discrimination test is less ideal where Xuan scored 6/9. In the coming terms, the focus will move toward grammar, vocabulary and comprehension as well as individual writing. As Xuan is generally competent in grammar and vocabulary, our attention at home would be placed more on comprehension(with structured written answer) and of course individual writing.
There was more stress in Chinese in 2nd term as the children will be band to HMT, core chinese and bridging chinese for term 3 according to term 2 results. Xuan scored full marks for listening comprehension and 29/30 for her written test. Reading test was close to full mark but her situational dialogues speaking assessment was less ideal where she had a B grade. And because of this, Xuan was put into core Chinese. We (including Xuan) were all a bit disappointed. The standard set was really high. Mommy remembered Xuan coming back to inform that there was a little hiccups during the situational speaking assessment where her partner and her had a little confusion of whose turn to speak next. We guess this had caused a few marks. Nevertheless, we told Xuan that it is alright as there is assessment every year and with more effort, she still has a chance to move to higher Chinese at year-end.
Well, the conclusion had a twist after the PTC. :) The chinese teacher acknowledged that it is a pity as Xuan has surpassed the expected grade in other areas for higher Chinese. With that, we hinted on the possibility of appealing and the Chinese teacher fully supported our decision. She said that she will inform the HOD to approve it. We have received the official’s email and yes Xuan will join the higher Chinese class in term 3. :D What a fruitful PTC. Hahaha…
What comes out most surprising and comforting is the initial disappointment from Xuan herself. Thereafter, she was seen reading her chinese newspapers and storybooks consciously everyday as mommy told her that she has to work harder to move up to HMT. When she learned that she has been moved to HMT, we see the joy and motivation on her face. Honestly, we are most heartened by the positive attitude.
The best well-done subject in term 2 was nonetheless Math.
Jia you dear Xuan!
Remember that 百尺干头,更进一步

As requested earlier, Xuan has her wish fulfilled when she went for a Hello Kitty baking class during the June holiday.
