Darling Xuan Xuan is 6!

I am 6!

Xuan got my birthday wish fulfilled on 22/11/2012. I am the Junior Master Chef on my Special Day! Thanks to mommy!

Months ago, Xuan was a big fan of the Australia Junior Master Chef show. Every tuesday 8pm, she will catch the show without fail. Xuan envy and admires the cooking skill of the children. So Xuan asked to go for a cooking/baking class where she can try to be a little Junior Master Chef too!

Our Junior Master Chef of 2012

Xuan happily waving to mommy who stood outside the class for 1 and half hour, busily taking photos for me.

Darling Xuan with mommy who planned the day event!

It was pretty tough when the children need to cream the butter and sugar together well to create a smooth batter.

Concentrating very hard in scooping the batter into each cup.

Xuan is making the cream together with a partner. The children work in pair in this stage as they need to whisk the mixture for a considerable long time to create the desire texture.

The cupcakes are baked! Time to decorate!

We were given lovely pink and blue cream for the base! Xuan looks professional, don't she? hehehe..

Look at my completed beary cupcakes!

Xuan had a fantastic 22/11/2012 where she went for her 1st movie treat too! Xuan and mommy went to catch a movie straight after the baking class. Xuan enjoyed the 3D Rise of the Guardian while finishing up the box of pop corns.

Movie time!

We rounded the night with an ice-cream cake from Baskin Robbins with a loud birthday song for me!

Xiao Jiujiu's birthday

We celebrated Xiao jiujiu's birthday a couple of weeks ago.

4 of us were definitely more excited than the birthday man. Before we blew candles, 4 of us were busy "chopping" the preferred cupcake. hahaha... and needless to say, 4 of us have also very helpful and enthusiastic to help jiujiu blow his candles too!

It was so difficult to take a decent picture of us. hahaha

Celebrating Children's Day 2012

On Children's Day, everyone in school is allowed to go to school in their favourite party dress! On the eve on the party, Xuan told us that she wanted to dress in her Snow White gown! Hahaha... We gave it a try and fortunately, the gown which we bought almost 2 years ago from HK Disneyland still fits her!!! Well, Xuan has lost most of her baby fats and that's explain why. Fortunately, the material used for the gown has a bit of elasticity to allow for expansion. :)

Xuan said that the teachers treated all the children to food like nuggets, sasuages and jelly. They played games and even have a simple fashion show! And Xuan is one of the selected models for the fashion show! hahaha...

Sport's Day 2012

Xuan has her 1st Sport's Day in August 2012

It was a good experience for both Xuan and didi. Weeks before the Sport's Day, both of us had practice session in school every friday. Back home, Xuan and didi were always running and hopping up and down, practising for the race! Xuan even asked for a spoon and a ping pong ball to practise her balancing skill while running.

Mommy was busy cheering for her 2 darlings in their every race while papa was busy capturing our every moments on the camera! We had fun! :D

Through this Sport's Day, Xuan has learnt how to cope the emotion of losing a game. Well, Xuan wasn't too happy when she didn't get a medal for the individual race. She was disappointed and was sulking for a while. She almost cried! It took quite a while for her to get over it despite mommy's consolation and encouragement.

Darling Xuan, remember that you have done your best and it is your best. It doesn't happen whether you win any medal. You had fun and we celebrate and cheer for your best effort okay!

Medals waiting for us!

The mascot of our Sport's Day 2012.

Upon arrival.

My 1st individual race! Hopping on 1 leg all the way! It is really not easy. :p

The team relay race where we had to run a distance while holding a ping pong ball in a spoon. Fun!
Xuan is the 4th and last runner in the team and Xuan's team came in 1st!
Yay! Xuan's 1st gold medal!

The 3rd team relay - passing baton! Xuan's team came in 2nd!

Making my turn to the finishing line! Wow... so many cameras capturing us!

My team mates!

Parents' race! Can you see mommy? hahahah...

Time to eat and recharge our energy!

My achievement for the Day!

Sudoku

Mommy bought this Sudoku book sometime ago but Xuan wasn't very keen in it. It has been at a corner of our book shelf until 2 days ago. :)

Xuan is slowly getting the "hang" of it. For a start, we attempted the puzzle together and by the 2nd grip, Xuan said,"let me do it". The idea is to let her have fun while working her brain.

Xuan completed it by herself. :)A good start.

Today, we brought the book out and while waiting for papa and mommy to finish our dinner, she has another go!

Proudly showing her solved puzzle :)

Term 3 review

Mommy took a look at the Term 4 calendar and activities plan from the school and can't help to feel that term 4 always pass in a blink of an eye. Firstly, there are quite a number of public holidays and school holidays. Then, usually the school will be busy preparing for their year-end concert. Xuan informed that they have already started practising for the year-end concert on every friday where it is set aside for a day of fun with activities. They have also done the fittings for the costumes! Every friday, the children will have fun activities, games, role-playing and even learn skills such as folding clothes, dressing up and making your own beds.

Our Xuan looking smart and so grown up here. :D

Every child gets to take a picture with their favorite book.

Before the September holiday, Xuan brought back her Observation Folio back with lots of completed works. A lot has been covered for every subject and lots of practises too. Being in the graduation year, I guess a lot of re-cap will be done too.

In math, Xuan has learnt quite in-depth on the topic, Time. Given a time, she is able to draw hour and minute hands to show the time correctly. She is able to read time by hour and minutes so much better now. She is able to read time using quarter to, half past and quarter past very well. Beside that, she understands the concept of 1 hour later, 2 hours ago and half an hour ago well too. :)

Xuan continues building on her addition and subtraction skill up to 1000, with change and without changes. With the numerous practise and close supervision by the teacher, Xuan is so much more confident in numbers now compared to term 1. We are thankful of the low teacher to children ratio in the School Montessori environment that enables the children to have a lot of individual attention.

Addition within 1000 ..

Practises on time..

In English, Xuan has completed learning the basic grammar concept of has, have, present tense, past tense, a and an, this, that, those, these, plural and singular etc.... comprehension, vocabulary etc. Teacher commented that Xuan is doing fine and she is pleased with her overall performance. She just have to read more carefully so that she can choose the correct tenses. In term 4, the teacher is going to move on to more creative writing to prepare them for P1. Talking about creative writing, the term 4 spelling list gets challenging too. Mommy almost fell off her chair. There are phrases such as "tears crept down his cheeks, trembled with fear and it also includes "Once upon a time, on a windy and cloudy day" for the opening of short story writing.

In Chinese, a lot of practises on 量词 and getting the strokes correct on writing and of course hanyu pinyin. Thankfully, Xuan can write chinese characters pretty well and neat most of the time. :) With weekly berries and the chinese speech and drama class in school, we hope Xuan will be able to cope next year when there is higher chinese in her primary school and most importantly to maintain her interest in learning chinese!
