Meet teacher's session

Mummy met up with my teacher last week for the half yearly update about Xuan’s progress in school.

Ms Isabel is Xuan’s new teacher from N2. She is a new teacher recruited this year cos Xuan’s class has expanded. Initially, mummy was a bit apprehensive about the change and had even made a request to the school on whether Xuan can stay with the current teacher. However, mummy is glad that the switch was not made ultimately. In these short 6 months, mummy found that Ms Isabel is really an experienced and delicate teacher who makes a lot of effort in her teaching such as conducting one-to-one reading programme and one-to-one supervision in writing by her own initiative for her class. Ms Isabel informed mummy that she prefers this approach cos it allows tailored coaching based on individual child progress and we learn better. So we will have some one-to-one session for 2 to 3 days a week. Over the last 1-2 months, mummy was surprised on Xuan’s sudden vast improvement in writing/tracing. Now mummy knows why. :)

Mummy is appreciative of the effort from the teacher. Most importantly, Xuan likes Ms Isabel too. Good delicate teachers are hard to come by! Although Ms Isabel is young, she has already a number of years experience teaching in international schools and has already completed her degree in early childhood education. Mummy could tell from her various conversations with Ms Isabel who shares her book knowledge about children development coupled with her practical experience.
Thanks Ms Isabel!

PROGESS UPDATE FROM TEACHER:

1) Xuan is proficient in recognition of alphabets and knows all their sounds well.
2) Xuan is progressing to recognize first sound of words now in phonic.
3) Xuan could read all the level 1 reader books that the teacher introduced so far (even before teacher read to her). Xuan is the only student who could do that in her class. Xuan proudly told Ms Isabel and friends that “my mummy read to me everyday!” :D Mummy is starting to read more level 2 and some level 3 readers books to Xuan at home recently.
4) Xuan recognises all sight words introduced so far, regardless how they are being used in different context. :D
5) Xuan has no problem narrating a simple story line about her own drawings when being asked.
6) Xuan is no longer walking around in the class and could sit through the lesson well.
7) Xuan loves story telling time and always wants to sit in the first row.
8) Xuan loves art and crafts time.
9) Xuan knows how to approach teacher for help when she needs something. E.g She wants to ride the bicycle but her friends have been riding on it for ages and didn’t want to share with her.
10) Xuan’s attention span has improved although she can still get distracted at times when in group activities and may rush through to get her work done. So we will continue to work on lengthening Xuan’s attention span.
11) Xuan’s writing skill has improved. (Xuan has recently started rote copying with mummy at home).
12)Xuan drawing skill has improved. We could interpret what Xuan is drawing now instead of lots of lines and circle here and there during the earlier part of the year. :)
13) Xuan can write her own name now.
14) Xuan has no problem in counting, arranging number in order.
15) Xuan converses in mandarin with Chinese teacher with ease. Chinese teacher commented that Xuan enjoys and likes singing, reciting and speaking mandarin to her and she has no problem in her pronunciation and 音准. However, more improvement needs to be made to writing.
16) Xuan has learnt how to get dress by herself.
17) Xuan’s social skill has improved a lot and she gets along well and can interact with her friends.
:)
